​​Congratulations to Mordechay Cohen, a graduate of Cohort 8 of the Mandel School for Educational Leadership, on being named as one of TheMarker's 100 Most Influential Israelis of 2018. Mordechay, who is the director general of the Ministry of Interior, was ranked 21st on the list, in recognition of the change processes that he is leading in local government, his work to minimize the centers of power in the local authorities, and his efforts to reduce inequality between the various local authorities in Israel. TheMarker deemed him "one of the most daring and innovative directors in the Israeli government today."

​Congratulations to Mohana Fares, a graduate of Cohort 10 of the Mandel School for Educational Leadership, on being named as one of TheMarker's 100 Most Influential Israelis of 2018. Mohana, who is the director of the division of national programs of the Israeli Ministry of Education, was ranked 32nd on the list, in recognition of the success of a program that significantly increased the number of high school students taking the five-unit matriculation exam in mathematics. Mohana was also named to the list in 2010, when he was recognized for his role in promoting the revolution in education in the Druze community.

​​Congratulations to Dr. Miri Schlissel, graduate of cohort 4 of the Mandel School for Educational Leadership​, on the award of her doctorate, and on her appointment as the Pedagogical Deputy Director-General of the Da'at religious education network. Miri wrote her doctoral thesis, in Bible and Midrash, on the subject "Joshua Ben-Nun and his Relation to Moses in Rabbinical Literature." The work explores how the character of Joshua is portrayed in Rabbinical literature, compared to that of Moses, and in that context also discusses the transfer of power from leader to follower, as well as the relationship between teacher and pupil. Miri's doctoral advisor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem was Prof. Avigdor Shanan, the university's Yitzhak Becker Professor of Jewish Studies.​​

The Institute is the result of an initiative developed over the course of the last year, and is based on ​Yiftach's vision of creating a learning environment in which learners share responsibility for one another, transforming ​schools into houses of education. Yiftach is joining Oranim Academic College of Education, which has adopted his Institute, and which is also the professional home of a number of other graduates.​
